Important Notes

Washing
*Hanfu garments are often delicate, especially those with embroidery. Handwashing is recommended.
*If you prefer to use a washing machine, choose the gentlest cycle and place the Hanfu in a laundry bag for added protection.
*After washing, air-dry indoors in a well-ventilated area.Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause color fading.
Storage
*Store your Hanfu in breathable garment bags to keep it clean and protected.
*Avoid hanging for long periods, as this can stretch or distort the fabric.
*Instead, gently fold your Hanfu and store it flat or stack it neatly in a storage box or drawer.

According to Yufu zhi (Treatise on Costumes and Regalia) of Jin Shu, Lizhi (Treatise on Rites) of Song Shu, archaeological findings from Niya Ruins in Xinjiang (silk shirts and bound-leg trousers unearthed in 1995), murals in Wei Jin tomb complexes in Jiayuguan, Gansu, and The Study of Ancient Chinese Costumes by Shen Congwen, the costumes of the Wei Jin Dynasty (220–420) combined the unrestrained style of scholars and the integration of Han and non-Han ethnic elements.

I Core Styles

1. Men’s Costumes

a) Straight-fronted Shirt: Cut straight without curved plackets, with sleeve width over 30 cm and length reaching the knees. Scholars wore fabrics like luo (gauze) and wan (fine silk) (fragments unearthed at Niya), while commoners wore linen, as recorded in Jin Shu: "Commoners shall not usurp brocade or fine silks for clothing."

b) Wide-sleeved Shirt: Sleeve width 50–60 cm, made of sha (thin gauze) or hu (crepe-like fabric), often paired with bare feet and loose hair (referenced in the "Brick Paintings of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove"), reflecting the metaphysics-influenced concept of "following nature."

c) Kuzhe (Trousers-Jacket Suit): Originated from the Xianbei people, consisting of a narrow-sleeved short jacket and bound-leg trousers. Commoners wore coarse linen, while military officers used gold-threaded brocade (unearthed at Yuli Yingpan Ruins). As recorded in Wei Shu: "It was originally military attire and remained in use by the army."

2. Women’s Costumes

a) Ruqun : The short ru (jacket) reached the waist, and the jianse qun (color-blocked skirt) had a hem width of 1.5 meters (referenced in murals of Cave 285 at Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes). Noblewomen wore qi (figured silk) and ling (damask silk) (bird-patterned qi unearthed at Niya), while commoners wore coarse silk, as recorded in Song Shu: "Princesses wore qi and ling silks."

b) Hair Crowns: A status-specific headpiece—For men: Scholars wore Pingshangze (plain-topped crown), a low-profile crown with a flat top, secured by a hairpin (zandao). As noted in Annotations to Records of the Three Kingdoms·Book of Wei·Biography of Emperor Wu (citing Fuzi): "Emperor Wu (Cao Cao) made ze from silk scraps." Commoners rarely used crowns, opting for linen head wraps instead. For women: Noblewomen adorned high buns with Buyao Crowns (trembling hair crowns), crafted from gold and inlaid with pearls, with pendants that swayed when moving. Relevant records in Hou Hanshu·Treatise on Costumes and gold buyao crown fragments unearthed from Eastern Jin tombs in Nanjing confirm this style. Common women rarely used formal crowns, only decorating buns with simple bone hairpins.

II Overall Characteristics

1. Unrestrained Style: Loose silhouettes (e.g., wide-sleeved shirts) abandoned the complexity of Han Dynasty costumes, evidenced by brick paintings and murals.

2. Ethnic Integration: Despite Emperor Xiaowen's ban on Hu-style clothing, kuzhe remained popular. Han-style silk shirts and Hu-style trousers unearthed at Western Regions ruins confirm this integration.

3. Diverse Fabrics: Qiliang (fine silks) were produced in the Wu region in the south (recorded in Song Shu as "tributary goods annually"), while high-quality linen came from Bingzhou in the north (mentioned in Qimin Yaoshu, "Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People"), meeting the needs of different social classes.

The Cross Collar Ru (jacket-skirt set) is made of hot-stamped organza fabric, which is light and flowing with excellent drape. The entire outfit is layered together, and its smooth lines make it as gorgeous as spread wings and as pouring water, dazzling and sparkling. It is an excellent choice for festival gatherings, catwalk shows, and outdoor outings.
